Biggest, Badest, Fastest, Most Powerful, Kick-Ass Off-Road Vehicles Ever!

I'm the type of guy who likes to open the biggest Christmas gift first. So rather than count-down to the biggest, badest, off-road vehicles in the world, we'll go straight to it and follow up with the rest.

#1 - Home-Made Rock Crawlers:

Rock CrawlerATVs (four-wheelers) are good for dunes and trails; snowmobiles for snow (and pavement too, apparently); MatTracks are good for mud and small rocks, and the Avenger is great for swamps. But there's room for one more type of terrain. What do you drive when you need to cross a mountain? Winner of the most bad-ass off-road vehicle is the ROCK CRAWLER! These are modified trucks, SUVs and dune buggies that are designed to literally climb mountains. And it's not just a matter of throwing on huge tires either. These things are meant to be flipped and are weighted in such a way as to encourage the vehicle to flip back over top-side. Often, drivers will flip several times and just keep on going. Check this out:

Sure that looked hairy - but it ended up ok in the end.
Not so true for this poor bastard (or anyone near him) who was knocked out with his foot on the gas:

#2 - Trucks and SUVs Turned Into Tanks:

Mattracks on an SUV - Tank TracksSWAMP? AW, THAT'S AIN'T NUTHIN' BUT A LIL OL' PUDDLE:
MatTracks (see video below) are rubber tracks that convert just about any vehicle into a veritable tank. They come in 37 different models for 4WD vehicles, including ATVs, SUVs, trucks and tractors. A Mat Track-equipped truck or ATV will go just about anywhere as long as there is land under it.

#3 - Amphibious Off-Road Vehicles:

8X8 Avenger All Terrain VehicleBut if you want to go even further, you might consider an amphibious off-road vehicle like the 8-Wheeled Avenger 750 EFO (pictured left) which has a V-Twin 748cc engine, fuel injection, all-eight-wheel-drive, seats six passengers, full skid-plate covering the bottom of vehicle, and optional rubber tank-like tracks. Best of all - it floats!

#4 - Modified Racing Quads:

Raptor 700 four wheelerATV FOR SPEED, TRACK AND DUNES
There is much contention among the ATV community as to which sport quad is the fastest out there, especially since so much depends on the rider and the modifications (mods) available. But there is at least some consensus that the Suzuki LT500 (AKA Quadzilla) is the fastest out-of-the-box ATV. My friend has fully-modded Yamaha Raptor 700 (left) and I don't see how any quad could be faster...

#5 - 4WD, Heavy-Duty ATVs:

Yamaha Grizzly 700 Fourwheeler 4x4 ATVATV POWER
If speed isn't what you're looking for in an ATV and raw power is your game - the 2008 Yamaha Grizzly 700 is tough to beat. It is the world's first ATV with power steering, making the 600 lb beast easier to maneuver than a 200 lb, stripped-down racing quad. It also has independent front and rear suspension to make it a smooth ride. Other features include fuel injection, dual hydraulic front and back brake disks, a digital LCD dash display, almost a foot of ground clearance and a towing capacity of 1,212 lbs. Put a wench on one of these bad boys and you can ride just about any surface on the planet Earth. Next in line to this ATV, in terms of 4WD power and performance, is 2008 Kawasaki Brute Force 750.

#6 - Supped Up Snowmobiles:

TCat SnowmobileWho Says Fun Has to Stop in December?
The Arctic Cat Thundercat 1000 is arguably the fastest snowmobile on the market, but there are factory sleds and there are custom sleds. If you're really looking for some speed, check out these modded dragsters racing on pavement:
